OCBC Pioneers Virtual Banking Experience: Singapore’s First Bank to Step into the Metaverse
The OCBC Bank of Singapore has made history by launching its metaverse platform, becoming the first local bank to offer a virtual banking experience. This cutting-edge platform provides an array of modern banking services to a larger, younger audience.
About the Virtual Platform
OCBCx65Chulia, which was named after its bank’s headquarters, can now be accessed by the public, which also includes non-OCBC customers, free of charge. Furthermore, this platform owns 9 land plots in the virtual realm.
This platform provides users with convenient access to the bank’s website, enabling them to easily avail services such as account opening and credit card application.
Mr. Peter Koh, Head of Technology Architecture, highlighted the virtual space as an extra platform for the bank to engage with a younger demographic, providing users with a chance to gain knowledge about the bank’s various locations globally. He also articulated that the metaverse serves as a connection between the digital and physical world, making this bank more accessible than ever before.
OCBS is not the Only One
OCBC Bank has taken this initiative to enter the metaverse, joining other financial institutions that have already made their presence known in the virtual realm.
In September 2022, DBS launched DBS BetterWorld, a platform that empowers users to build a more sustainable world, in partnership with The Sandbox, a blockchain-based gaming universe powered by Ethereum.
Apart from that, in November 2022, UOB planted its flag in the metaverse with the launch of SkyArtVerse, an innovative virtual art gallery situated in Decentraland. This cutting-edge gallery is an immersive art theme park exhibiting the 37 victorious artworks of the 2022 UOB Painting of the Year competition.
