A recent survey conducted by French payroll software provider Payfit has found that 20% of French workers are open to receiving all or part of their salaries in cryptocurrency. The survey results were reported by Cointribune, a French media outlet.
Stance of Payfit CEO
While the CEO of Payfit, Amaury Lelong, expressed difficulty in interpreting the reasons behind this preference for crypto salaries, the data revealed interesting patterns. Among younger respondents aged 18 to 35, the figure shot up to 31% in favor of cryptocurrency as a form of remuneration. Additionally, almost a quarter of male respondents expressed an interest in receiving crypto salaries.
On the other hand, the survey also revealed that employees in larger companies and individuals in the CSP+ demographic (including business owners, doctors, lawyers, and executives) were less inclined towards receiving crypto salaries. Over 80% of individuals working in companies with more than 500 employees rejected the idea, along with 79% of those in the CSP+ category.
Questioning the awareness of the younger generation about the inherent risks of cryptocurrency volatility, Lelong contemplated the broader implications of this trend. He suggested that the statistics indicate a significant upheaval in the relationship between work and finance, coinciding with technological, societal, and environmental developments.
“It is a fact that the world of work is undergoing unprecedented change that is linked to technological, societal, and environmental developments. Since the arrival on the labor market of the Millennials and then of the digital natives, we have observed a marked change in the relationship people have toward work. And, more generally, [we have seen change in] the role that work plays in people’s lives.”
Significance of this Survey
This survey result aligns with the rising adoption of cryptocurrency in France. Some attribute this surge to recent inflation issues in the national economy. In fact, several prominent shopping malls in the country have announced plans to accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment. Moreover, French crypto traders have declared around $448 million worth of crypto-related profits this year.
The evolving attitudes towards work and finance, coupled with the growing acceptance of cryptocurrency as a legitimate form of payment, indicate a significant shift in society’s relationship with money.
